KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25: In some of the strongest reactions, PAS secretary general Mustafa Ali (pic) said MCA president Chua Soi Lek was subject to a moral barometre that is different from the rest of the people.
Responding to Chua's relentless criticism over PAS candidate Normala Sudirman's preference not to shake hands with the opposite sex, Mustafa reminded that it was due to this that MCA members had no qualms of electing Chua in spite of his sex video showing him indulging in oral sex with some one who was not his wife.
“That’s why, acting in a porn movie to others is morally wrong but appears to be fine for him and MCA. That’s why he won as MCA president,” Mustafa told Harakahdaily.
He echoed PAS Youth's information chief Suhaizan Kaiat who blamed Chua’s claim of ignorance over Islamic values on UMNO, saying the Malay-based party had failed to educate its non-Muslim partners to exercise mutual respect.
Mustafa added that Chua might have been confused after years of seeing the behaviour of UMNO's Muslim leaders.
"He has never seen what is being practised by Normala. To me, this is UMNO’s failure to educate the non-Muslim leaders who are with them. I don’t think UMNO women understand the obligations as well,” said Mustafa, and said Muslims as a rule do not ridicule non-Muslim values and norms.
'Public understands'
Mustafa also congratulated Normala for staying true to her principles at the risk of political mileage.
"Normala has confidently shown Islamic behaviour in public, although it may have cost her some votes from people next to Chua Soi Lek.
"There’s no need to worry as the public understand PAS in this issue,” he stressed.
Mustafa further said it was common of Muslim women not to extend their hands to the opposite sex, and gave examples of PAS and PKR leaders.
PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hasan Tantawi meanwhile turned the table on UMNO leaders who questioned PAS's alliance with DAP, a party which they brand as "anti-Islam".
“Now Allah has revealed who is MCA next to UMNO’s side.
While MCA through its president has been insulting Islam and ridiculing Muslims who stay true to their Islamic principles, the DAP from day to day has been getting closer and increasing its understanding on Islam,” said Nasrudin in a statement today.
