Khir to submit resignation letter today
SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, who has been charged with fraud, is expected to submit his resignation letter as state opposition leader today.
The former Selangor Mentri Besar said he would leave it to the state Umno liaison committee to fill the post.
“I will submit my letter to the liaison committee tomorrow,” he said here yesterday.
On Monday, Dr Khir announced through his blog www.drkhir.com his decision to step down as opposition leader in the Selangor state assembly with immediate effect. However, he vowed to continue serving his constituents.
Dr Khir, who is Sungai Panjang assemblyman, said his decision to quit was for the good of the party and to avoid any speculation.
He was charged in the Sessions Court here with fraud over a deal involving two plots of land and a house in Section 7 here. He pleaded not guilty.
Ditamas Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Shamsuddin Haryoni, 52, is charged with abetting in the property deal on May 29, 2007.
Dr Khir is alleged to have obtained for himself and his wife Datin Seri Zahrah Kechik the land and house from Ditamas through Shamsuddin for RM3.5mil when in fact the lots were bought by Ditamas on Dec 23, 2004, for RM6.5mil.
The charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code carries a two-year jail term, fine or both. — Bernama
