KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 8: Having been banned from the Kuala Lumpur city centre tomorrow, PAS leaders laughed off the injunction by the police against them, saying they would attend the Bersih rally at Stadium Merdeka.
SERENE RETREAT ... Ibrahim Ali and followers will now spend the weekend at the Titiwangsa lake
At the same time, despite repeated vows by UMNO's offshoot Perkasa that its members would also gather to clash with Bersih supporters, its chief Ibrahim Ali announced a last-minute withdrawal citing absence of a police permit as the reason.
"I urge them (Perkasa members) to have a picnic or 'makan angin' (stroll) at Titiwangsa lake," he told the press today.
PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub, one of 91 leaders from Pakatan Rakyat, UMNO Youth and Perkasa served with the restriction notice, said top party leaders would be present at the rally.
He said the order was against the Agong's advice on all parties to have consultations and for the authorities to be just.
“The restriction is clearly against the spirit and will of his majesty’s decree,” he said.
PAS election director Dr Hatta Ramli said he had yet to be served with the notice personally.
"The current administration is drowning and is clueless on how to face the people's uprising,” he added.
Shah Alam member of parliament Khalid Samad described the latest move as "insane", while outspoken central committee member Mazlan Aliman laughed off the restriction order and said he would attend tomorrow's rally.
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim meanwhile posted on Twitter that Pakatan Rakyat leaders would be present in the rally.
“Pakatan Rakyat leaders will attend," he said.
