Now you can help Bersih too

Harakahdaily

KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 7: Electoral reforms group Bersih 2.0 has made an appeal to all Malaysians to support its cause by making contributions to finance its campaign for electoral reforms in the country.

In a statement posted on its website, Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan thanked supporters, saying the coalition had "come a long way in carrying the aspirations of the rakyat for clean and fair elections".

"Like many other Steering Committee members, it has been challenging personally to face threats of murder, gang rape and various other violence directed against myself and others," she said, referring to threats of violence by pro-UMNO bloggers.

"Nonetheless, we understand our responsibility in holding the line on behalf of all of you who want nothing more than a clean electoral system and a better Malaysia. Malaysians both at home and abroad have already been called to make so many sacrifices, so while we do not aspire to add to your burdens, we are writing this in the hopes that you can spare some support," she added.

The coalition which has been at the centre of a witch-hunt over its rally this Saturday also listed a breakdown of its operational cost (see table below).

The statement said Penang-based rights group Aliran Kesedaran Negara had agreed to collect contributions on behalf of Bersih. Those who want to make donations may do so to this bank account:
Account No: 507 246 118 995

Bank: Malayan Banking Berhad

Those who prefer to use online payment service PayPal may do so by addressing their PayPal transfers to " donations@bersih.org This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ".

Bersih said it had to rely on trusted volunteers to collect payments on its behalf, and said donors should "not be alarmed if you see individuals’ name appearing in the acknowledgement email on your donation".
